Four causes account for nearly every disappearance from the map pack. Here is how to tell which one you are dealing with, in the order worth checking.
If your profile has dropped out of the map pack, the cause is almost always one of four things: a category or detail changed, the profile was suspended, your business information stopped matching across the web, or competitors simply out-reviewed you. Check them in that order, because the first two are fast to confirm and the last two take longer to fix.
First, confirm it is actually gone
Search from a logged out browser and from outside your own building before concluding anything, because Google personalises results heavily and your own device is the least reliable place to check. Distance from the searcher is a major local ranking factor, so standing in your shop makes you look better ranked than you are. Check the way a customer would.
Check whether something changed on the profile
Open the profile and look at the category, hours, phone, website, and address, because these get changed by user suggestions and by Google's own automated updates without anyone telling you. A primary category quietly switching is enough to remove you from the results you used to appear in. This is the single most common cause and the easiest to miss.
Check for a suspension
A suspended profile disappears entirely rather than ranking lower, so if nothing shows even for your exact business name, that is the likely explanation. Suspensions are usually triggered by an address or category change, a service area edit, or a mismatch with your website. Reinstatement is a process, and making further edits while it is pending tends to make it slower.
Check your information across the web
Google cross references your profile against your website and your other listings, so a phone number or business name that disagrees between them reads as uncertainty and costs you position. One name, one phone format, one address, everywhere. This is tedious to clean up and it is the fix that lasts longest.
Consider that nothing broke
Sometimes the profile is fine and a competitor simply passed you, usually by collecting recent reviews while you collected none. Rankings are relative, so standing still is losing slowly. If your review count has not moved in a year and the businesses above you have fifty more, that is the answer and no technical fix substitutes for it.
The order to work in
Confirm from a neutral browser, check the profile fields, rule out a suspension, then clean up your listings and restart reviews. Most Charlotte businesses find the cause in the first two steps within twenty minutes, and the ones that do not are usually looking at a review gap that took a year to open and will take months to close.
